On floor standing, would they have to be new? If you have some good hifi dealers in your area that take trade-ins, you could get a fairly nice pair of used floor standing speakers in your budget. I have not bought a brand new pair of speakers in over 20 years, but my mains are model year 2005 and my latest surrounds are 2006s (both bought used). There is great value in buying what somebody else has to get rid of to trade up. Or just needs to sell because they have money problems.
Most of the great speaker companies upgrade or repair their speakers to original spec if you send them in with a problem. And you can do an extensive listening test at the dealer before buying and most good dealers will even let you listen to them in your home if it is going to lead to a sale! At least my local audio dealer does because I am listening to a $25,000 pair of tube mono blocks that I picked up Saturday morning to demo against my Ayre MX-R mono blocks (have to have them back Tuesday morning after they open or give them a check ;} ). Maybe an option if you have good local dealers. -- iPhone ------------------------------------------------------------------------ iPhone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13622 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=40141 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
