I must second what everyone else is saying here. Every speaker has a distinct personality, and people react differently to the various strengths and weaknesses of design.
There is no way I can tell you which speaker you will like or dislike, based on my personal preferences. Take, for example, the Audionotes mentioned earlier in the thread. This is a design that could in no way be described as 'sorted' in a hifi sense, yet when I have listened to them, I have always found myself forgiving their shortcomings, as they are fairly musical at the price. Many other people would not give them house room, however. On the other side of the coin Redheko make speakers whose strengths I can admire and are well regarded by many, but I couldn't personally live with at all. And that's without taking the rest of your system into account! Another point I would like to add to is the one about using a hifi dealer for auditions with no intention to buy. This is something that happens to every hifi dealer, especially for items that can be bought over the net, or from some "pile 'em high, sell 'em cheap" merchant. Most of these guys are struggling to make a decent living, as people spend their cash on a wider and wider range of entertainment products, and less on music systems. Anyway if you feel you might get into hifi for the long term, then forging a relationship with a decent dealer can be very beneficial. A final point, but one well made by dealers everywhere. Very often people listen in a shop, and clearly like one or two of the products, but will not buy them because they didn't come out number one in the latest What HiFi comparitive review (for What HiFi, you can substitute almost any other magazine title). Frequently the number one is less preferred, yet will be bought by said customer because the reviewer knows best. Well, you don't have the reviewers' ears or preferences, so go with what you like!
