SB1 to SB2/3 was actually a pretty huge upgrade.

Have a look at the hardware comparison page in the Wiki:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?HardwareComparison

• the SB1 doesn't play FLAC, so everything is transcoded to WAV or MP3
on the server.

• It also only support 802.11b so running it on the same access point
as your other devices will slow them down as well.

• The unit also has less buffer RAM, combined with wav audio, menas it
is far more likely to get buffering issues, especailly over 11mbit
wirless.

• No access to SqueezeNetowrk

• Screen isn't graphical by default, it is character besed. Unless you
get one that had the graphics screen upgrade (technically called a
SBG)

• Along with being 802.11b it only uses WEP, not WPA. so wireless
security isn't as good.

Personally i would wire an SB1 if I had one.
