Well I finally got my Transporter this weekend, and my son and I spent a long time trying it with different settings, and also comparing it to my existing CD player, through the CD player's (separate) DAC etc etc.
We compared FW decoding of FLAC vs transcoding in Slimserver, and there is a definite and quite noticable difference in the sound in my system. Against my expectation, and contrary to what I have seen written on this forum, we both preferred the sound when decoding is done in the tp itself. However, there is an extra energy to the sound when decoding in Slimserver, but at the expense of timing and precision.
