After having read a lot about the Beresford TC-7510, I bought and received my Mk6/3 (Stan's coax cable included) 2 weeks ago.
I have a Yamaha RX-V1300 receiver and a SD Squeezebox 3 for my music. My rack also bears a Pioneer DV-656A DVD player for DVD's and SACD's/DVD-Audios. To complete the picture I have Chario Syntar T200 as front speakers, Syntar 200T as rears, Syntar Dialogue as a centre and a MJ Acoustics Pro 50 as sub. I belong to the lesser few who listens more to internet radiostations (thru Squeezenetwork) than to mp3's/flac (thru Slim Server). But because I want to rip all my CD's into flac in a (short) while, I couldn't resist and bought the 7510 which has been played in with radio stations by now for 2 weeks. Today I tried a flac to CD comparision, because it has been 2 weeks now that my Beresford has been playing. So I ripped a CD (K's Choice - Cocoon Crash) to FLAC using EAC and did a test switching between my receiver/dvdp and my receiver/beresford/squeezebox. To my surprise I found my dvd player slightly better sounding than my the CD thru SB3/Beresford. The last sounded a bit flat, while my dvd player was more spacious. My question is: does the Beresford need to be played in with flac files (after I listened to internet radio for 2 weeks) as well or does playing in the DAC is just a matter of the cable connection with your amp/receiver and after that is doesn't matter what your source is (radio of mp3 or flac)? If it doesn't matter when you use either radio or mp3/flac then I guess the Beresford doesn't work for my system, which I know isn't high-end but isn't el-cheapo as well. I am not a troll trying to bash the Beresford, but I am just surprised about the results of my test. I tested switching between my SB3 and my Yamaha receiver using the DAC with the coax and without the DAC using a (plastic) toslink cable. The toslink to my surprise sounds better to my ears, more clearer. Again, these results come to a surprise to me. I hope someone can comment to my test. For your information, I tested using the stereo mode so there were no DSP involved. -- -Stef- Yamaha - Chario - MJ Acoustics - Squeezebox 3 - Beresford ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -Stef-'s Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10282 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=37720 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
