Yes, my Yamaha has a "p.direct" mode that I always use. The ADC of my
receiver is bypassed that way. The analogue signal from my Beresford
stays analoque when processed thru my receiver (at least that's the
theory).

Switching between the Beresford DAC and the Yamaha DAC simply goes by
plugging and unplugging the toslink in my SB3. Receiver is in stereo
mode and p.direct is turned on. I now hear that the toslink (connecting
the Yamaha's DAC) results in a slightly louder signal which of course
can be percepted as a "better" signal. I will have to do some more
testing by letting another person do the switching and me doing the
hearing part.
