The Beresford is not a high-end DAC for sure, but it is a very adequate DAC. On mine I seem to be able to tell it sounds muddy after it has set a while so I leave it on all the time, strange I know. I have a Lavry DA10 which is much better than the Beresford but for what I call on the Beresford to do, it does it well. I feed it an optical signal from my Squeezebox. I use the Beresford fixed RCA out (Are you using it's fix output? if not do so!) into my headphone amp at my easy chair. Using the Beresford volume control can also degrade the sound some, BTW.
