Sean is too professional to say it explicitly, and I don't want to put words in his mouth. But I'm under no such controls. Tube devices are wonderful tone controls. Or even wonderful signal processors. And they look cool. Lots of people like them. Many serious people think that modern CD recording and mastering techniques harm the sound in a way that tube stages can 'fix' I will not try to argue about this. But tube gear does not reproduce what the signal is. Very, very expensive tube gear can come close, but that is not what tube gear fans want. They change the sound. Usually in ways many folks think sound nice. Tubes are cool distortion and noise generators. Tubes are signal changing devices. There is nothing wrong with liking them.
