I had the Transporter connected with RCA cables to my Pathos for the fist 2 months until I decided to give its Balanced capability a try. Its difficult to differentiate between what the cable construction itself and the XLR configuration did to the overall musical rendering, but all I can tell you is that the sound difference was a lot and very distinguishible, especially in the background, it became blacker, darker and the sense of space became a true revelation in contrast to the standard rca connection.
XLR's are ment to dissipate any noise in the transmission through its balanced configuration, mainly the addition of a ground. My recommendation is simple, go for the Pathos, and use its full capability along with the transporter's full capability.
