I highly recommend from time to time running flac-test against your flac files. I had a flaky SATA controller that wrote bad data back to the disk under random occasions. Since this drive was only for music the only symptoms occurred when I tried to play back flac files that had be affected (note only files that had been modified since the controller went bad). Not sure how long this had been going on, but when I ran the flac-test about 40% of my collection was trashed. Luckily I had a backup method to DVDs however it had been a few weeks since the last backup and well I had a good bit of re-ripping to do.
If I ran flac-test weekly I would have noticed the issue much sooner and would have had fewer files affected. Now on-top of my DVD backups, I am using backuppc to do incremental daily backups to HDD with weekly and monthly full backups. Backuppc is great if you have a linux box since you can use it to network backup other pcs which can be Windows, Linux or Mac. -- m1abrams ------------------------------------------------------------------------ m1abrams's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=850 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42358 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
