Helly nicketynick, sure. I wanted a NAS to leave our main computer for wife and kids who are allowed to crash it while I am listening downstairs ;-) Problem with off-the-shelf NAS is, that Slimserver is a pain to get running from what I read and tends to run slow. Intel makes a $60 mainboard, Essential Series D201GLY2 SiS662 (http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/D201GLY2/index.htm), with a 1.2GHz Celeron passively cooled already pre-soldered. Different from Intel's statement it accepts a 2GB memory module (I prefered Qimonda / Infineon RAM for quality reasons). The motherboard is basically ITX, but gets hot in a small case, so I chose the uATX AeroCool M40 (http://www.aerocool.us/p-case/m40/m-40.htm) which comes at a very reasonable price. Altogether (Motherboard + Memory + Case + 500MB Samsung hard drive) I ended up below US-$ 300, assembly took 30 minutes (new personal record ;-) Installation of FreeNas + SlimServer took longer than expected, since it was my first set-up. I use a Nokia N800 for US$280 (http://www.nseries.com/products/n800) as a remote control which has a breathtaking display and you can surf the Net while listening. I also use the standard remote a lot, it is very intuitive for switching to the next song. I am extremely pleased with the convenience and usability of the Squeezebox and will keep it, but I am missing the sound quality of my SCD-1. I will go with the proposal in the threat and try out the Transporter. I have a case, even my family agreed on the sound difference (which in all fairness is difficult to assess due to my different volume levels, but is well audible in voice timbres for example).
