If only it were true. Maybe that is the case with some DAC's. I can tell you with my CIAudio VDA-2 that I can hear the difference between my Squeezebox and my CEC TL-51X transport. They sound very different. I have compared them using an Audioquest plastic toslink, a cheapo Ebay glass toslink a .5M DHLabs D75 coax and a 2M Belden Synapse. I won't claim that the CEC sounds better, period, because that would come down to each individual's preference. But it certainly does not sound the same as the Squeezebox when both are used as transports to the same DAC in my system. I would be happy to sell the CEC and run the Squeezebox (I did, after all, buy it and proceed to rip my entire cd collection to my computer and spend alot of time making sure the tags were proper etc...) but not until it actually sounds as good to me as the CEC on my system.
