What he said! I rip everything as FLAC so that's what gets played back but I use MP3s (LAME -V 2) for my nano with some Westone UM-2s and to be honest I generally can't tell the difference. If you're wanting to encode to a lossy format for a portable then go with FLAC as it means you'll never need to rerip if another, better lossy format comes along. Also transcoding to another lossless format will never result in any loss in quality as they're both lossless :) HTH. -- probedb Paul.
