Passive analogue volume control. I would guess this is only of practical use to people doing DSP on the server which eats into player headroom in advance of the digital volume control. In this scenario a passive volume control like on the Benchmark DAC1 might be better overall. Anyway, I intend to be in the market for a new player at some point and it's a consideration for me.
(But in the absence of DSP the digital volume control is IMHO pretty much the perfect solution.)
