Winamp and DB Poweramp indicate 24/88

Linn Records Hi-Res Studio Master 24/96 wma (Claire Martin- He Never
Mentioned Love)
WMP file properties indicate Windows Media Audio 9.1 lossless @ 24/96
Winamp and DB Poweramp indicate 24/96
Foobar indicates 16/48
Squeezecenter indicates 30.5 sample rate

In the case of Foobar in the last two examples above we see from time
to time any of these players can get it wrong, assuming Foobar is
actually wrong! LOL

In my case it would seem Squeezecenter consistently gets it wrong when
it comes to wma files, and wma is the only file format of all Hi-Res
downloads on Music Giants, who is the only provider of Hi-Res non
proprietary artists. It would be nice to check either the web or TP
screen interface and get accurate info as to the resolution one is
listening to.

I’ll throw one more anomaly out there, and this may be a
conversion/tagging thing so I’ll ask over in that forum, but if I
convert a flac to wav, using DB Poweramp, Squeezecenter will display
sample size and sample rate, however if I convert any of these wma to
wav, Squeezecenter will display NO file properties, yet Winamp, Foobar
and DB Poweramp all display them accurately!

As it stands, (for me) the only way to know what degree of high
resolution I’m listening to is if that format is flac, assuming
Squeezecenter is reporting the properties for Hi-Res flac accurately,
or get feedback from someone who has an external sample rate converter
or DAC that indicates output on these various file formats, or take
someone’s word for it, which I do….but…how the heck are you to know
what your listening to. If Winamp, Foobar and Db Poweramp can report
these things accurately why can’t my beloved Squeezecenter and TP.

Dave, how have you derived your wav files and does Squeezecenter
indicate properties?

Gosh, re-reading this I sound like an old nag. This is not the end of
the world and many thanks go out to Sean for his efforts to meet the
demands of the current market.
