Well, you can say that I have a setup in mind, so let me explain my requirements: I have some active speakers right now that are in very bad state that I use for my Desktop PC. Since I bought the Squeezebox I don\'t use the PC for music anymore (I now have all my music stored on a Server), but I still use it for playing games. So I need to control 2 sound sources for now (and eventually 3, since I\'m thinking of buying a game console down the road). And I want to avoid swapping cables everytime I want to hear one or the another. I actually have the Sennheiser RS120 wireless headphones, I bought them mostly becuase I don\'t like being tied up to a cable, altough I know the quality is not that great. That is why I\'m looking for speakers right now, actually I don\'t know which ones to buy yet... still investigating, but the sure thing is that I want to hear my music in better quality, the games are not that important, but if they can be used with the same speakers, the better. And I don\'t need high volume sound, won\'t hear at loud levels. Saying this, I still want to be able to listen to the Sennheiser, so I want to be able to change to listen to the Speakers or Sennheiser headphones. Good question on the cables... I didn\'t think of this really. I guess I would need 2 pairs of good quality cables... one from the SB3 to the pre-amp and one from the pre-amp to the amp, right? As for the RS-232... is not a real \"neccesity\", but I like tinkering with my devices and my server, so I will find a way to use it to control all from my server, just for the fun you could say. I guess this could be accomplished some way too with the IR Blaster. So this is a \"little\" project in some way too, the discovery and installation is part of the fun for me. (I guess you figured out that I don\'t know that much on audio equipment :P ) The budget should be 1100 dlls max. So maybe spend around 400-500 on the preamp/amp combo (that is why im looking at used equipment) and some 400-500 on the speakers... -- pichonCalavera *rip* (eac) > *convert* (flac) > *tag* (musicbrainz/mp3tag) > *normalize* (replaygain/foobar2000) > *albumart* (www) > *transport* (winscp) > *store* (debian) > *rescan* (squeezecenter) > *play* (squeezebox) > *mix* (musicip) > *listen* (sennheiser) > *scrooble* (last.fm) > *enjoy* (me :) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ pichonCalavera's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13068 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44317 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
