That's really the whole reason that Stereophile, Audiophile Voice, The Absolute Sound, etc. exist. Each issue of each of these usually has at least one speaker pair in this range. its really a matter of taste. I have two sets in that general range, Sonus Faber Concertos and Mackie 824 monitor speakers. The Sonus Fabers are beautiful to look at and listen to, but need a sub. The Mackies are amazing, but ugly, and many folks would call them clinical. NHT, PSB, and many others make them. And its so competitive that new products come and go very quickly. As an aside, the Mackies are self amplified, which I really love. You know that the amp matches the speakers. A SqueezeBox and some $1000 powered speakers is a great combination for very little money. At least little in the audiophile world. -- Pat Farrell http://www.pfarrell.com/ _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
