You can easily do the 4x squeezebox/receiver with FLAC over G wifi. As long as the SqueezeCenter is on wired ethernet.
I agree with pfarrell, squeezeboxes and powered speakers are a great way to go for each room. If you're looking for an in-wall setup, and want to use a small stack of SqueezeBox receivers in a closet, you would need either an 8 channel amp, or a small stack of 2 channel amps.
