It's a semantic point I suppose, as yes, there are 65536 steps between full amplitude negative, and full amplitude positive. However I think it is important to be clear that there are not this many steps from zero amplitude to full amplitude.
The point about noise is well made, although the effect on the sampling is not always intuitive: Example: Pure signal sample: 0000001111111111 add one bit of noise: 0000010000000000 in other words, just because noise modulates levels that can be represented in a small number of bits, does not means that the least significant bits are irrelevant. -- bigfool1956 David Ayers Music is what counts, hifi just helps us enjoy it more ------------------------------------------------------------------------ bigfool1956's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45107 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
