Well you asked for it. :) I think vinyl is laughable. Utterly ridiculous. The last time I heard a turntable was at a hi-fi show a few weeks ago. A piece of classical music was playing and as soon as the pops and crackles started I walked out of the room directly. Totally off-putting and just unacceptable for realistic reproduction.
Maybe not all vinyl makes that noise, but the fact a vinyl loving exhibitor thought THAT was acceptable speaks volumes about the tunnel-hearing vinyl crowd. Maybe if there was an analogue format that didn't have glaring and frankly anachronistic short-comings then I would give it a second listen. This is only IMHO and I realise YMMV.
