Thanks for the info Walt. After further testing, I can conclude that the popping definitely goes away if I turn brightness to 0 (no display) while playing. This is so for AES, coax and toslink. There is no popping if the DCC2 is slaved to the Transporter.
Which version of Squeezecenter are you using? 7.0.1 or 7.1?
