I have used both DRC (TACT) and just parametric eq (z-sys rdp-1) and far
prefer par eq. DRC makes my big speakers sound small and you still have
to dial in preference curves cos drc sounds like doo doo if you dont.
I just use my par eq to notch out bass humps and tune to taste.
At the end of it all there is no universal truth in reproduced audio
and thus you might as well hear what you like rather than trying to
replicate a straight wire with gain. Even a simple bass and treble
control can make the difference between something being listenable or
not.
At any rate, what I have found is this , that you can tune and correct
for one type of music and as soon as you switch to another , it all
goes downhill.
