I've had the 1800 for about 6 months now and I really love it. I run it
in pure mode depending on the source material as I like the SB's analog
on acoustic type albums and strong vocal albums. Music like Massive
attack I like to take advantage of some of the dsp's of the Yamaha.
You'll have to play around with it and see what you like. It's a very
impressive all around receiver and I'm very glad I bought it over the
Denon that I was considering. It really brought to life my B&W
speakers. With movies I use it with the B&W fronts and a center and
sub and it's great. I've enjoyed it enough that I'm still putting off
adding rears. It has pure mode and a straight mode that use the analog
of the SB. The pure shuts off everything not needed for stereo, so that
you don't have any possible interference, even the display. Straight
mode lets you have the display and a sub no digital processing. My ears
aren't good enough to really hear a difference between the two other
than whats in my head. :) I went out go mainly buy a new receiver for
audio but then decided it would be nice to have a better system for my
plasma. Audio was my first criteria and the Yamaha's sound it what
sold me.
