Since I'm used to thinking solid state, it never occurred to me that this might be a problem _after_ the DAC chip, but that seems quite plausible. It's also consistent with the pops going away when the volume is turned down, although to be quite honest I'm not familiar enough with tubes to know exactly what might cause that behavior. And is that a volume knob on the front of the DAC?
