Have you measured it with collisions? Back in ancient times, there were
huge technical debates over token ring vs Ethernet. Because token ring's
performance with contention was essentially fixed, and Ethernet's is
probabilistic.

CSMA/CD never delivers more than half its rated capacity in any real
world case. a 25% delivery is good, and one tenth is not at all unusual
with collisions being detected.

Most folks don't care, because their ISP only provides one or two
megabits/second, so any slowdown by the WiFi is not visible to laptops,
etc.

But streaming media can seriously stress a network. Audio will crush
802.11b's 11 mbs and video can crush 'n'
