No I agree red book is more accurate than 128MP3 and I agree hi-rez is
more accurate than red book. I'm just discussing what is audible.

As explained I do have a few reasons to stay with red book so I need
convincing that more is needed.

The Japanese study is interesting because it goes against the studies
I've read so far. A couple of things that count against it are its lack
of corroborating studies and the 'extremely' comment which does bother
me. (One question about the AES study: I assumed they could listen as
long as they liked as in a normal ABX test, but it seems some of you
think the samples were time-limited. If you can provide a reference to
where it says the samples were time-limited that would be interesting.)

Perhaps the only way to truly resolve these points, for me, is to do
some corroborating studies - with something like the London
Philharmonic as Nick suggests.
