This was recorded with 3 mics for the whole orchestra and according to the sleeve "no filtering, equalization, limiting, or compression of dynamic range was used on the master recording". The sound quality is AFAI can tell with my ears/system as good as you might expect.
The performance is excellent IMO. What's not to like? There are some jumps in the sound, which sound a little like clumsy editing points until you hear some of them at the very beginning or end of a couple of tracks (where no-one would edit). I think they're artifacts of the recording process on to 35mm film. I don't think they're due to copy protection...I hear them on a conventional player too. It's not that bad: most tracks are unaffected including all the dances, except for the Russian Dance right at the end, and some of these irregularities are worse than others. If such things annoy you I would avoid this as your first Nutcracker. If you have Nutcrackers you like already and want to compare then fine, go for it! You can read how this SACD hybrid has distinct masters for the SACD and CD layers, maybe the SACD layer won't have the jumps although if my theory is right it will: http://www.sa-cd.net/shownews.php?news=26 Darren -- darrenyeats SB3 / Inguz -> Krell KAV-300i (pre bypass) -> PMC AB-1 Dell laptop -> JVC UX-C30 mini system ------------------------------------------------------------------------ darrenyeats's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10799 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53770 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
