Jez,
The difference that the OP is hearing is almost certainly down to the
fact that his Nakamichi CD Mech (+whatever spdif cable he is using) is
contributing more jitter than his SB setup. This is hardly surprising
since his Nakamichi MB-10 is hardly the last word in high-end, low
jitter transports (no disrespect intended to the OP!).

The TACT is incidental in all of this. Easily proven as you describe.

As for the Levinson DAC (a high quality unit to be sure)... like all
other "jitter-proof" DAC's - it isn't 100% JP - none of them are.

Clock-linking of DAC (master) to transport (slave) is the only
"jitter-proof" method that really, really works. Everything else is a
compromise. FIFO-buffering and "re-clocking" are a compromise.

You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it
ain't what you'd call minimal...SB3+Stontronics PSU - Altmann
JISCO/UPCI - TACT 2.2X (Linear PSU) + Good Vibrations S/W - MF
Triplethreat(Audiocom full mods)- Linn 5103 - Aktiv 5.1 system (6x
LK140's, ESPEK/TRIKAN/KATAN/SEIZMIK 10.5), Townsend Supertweeters,
Kimber & Chord cables
Outdoors: Boombox+Creative Sub (If I remember to turn it on...)
