Dacs are funny things. The qualitative change in the sound swapping around DACs is nowhere near as great as changing your speakers, or even repositoning them. Many causual hifi users cannot distinguish between dacs and many audiophiles could not distuinguish between dacs when used with anything but reasonably high end hifi equipment.
That said, the "apparently" very small difference in sound exchanging a dac can make can determine whether the music sounds good or not, whether you tap your foot or not. It's almost more of an emotional thing. Whether this is due to "jitter" or not I have no idea. That said, the sound of the Tranporter is very removed from the sound of the sb3. The difference should be immediately obvious if the hifi gear you are using is good quality and transparent. It cannot be said whether this difference is solely due to the dac though (in fact, it's certain it is not). Whether you prefer the sound of the Transporter over the SB3 depends upon which device makes makes you tap your foot more vigorously. Well, it does for me anyway. :-) MC SB+ > Bryston 4B SST > PMC OB1 -- ModelCitizen On average people have fewer than two feet. http://www.last.fm/user/ModelCitizen ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ModelCitizen's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=446 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=58311 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
