Have any of you noticed DAE quality tool from the maker of Exact Audio Copy? http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/en/index.php/other-projects/dae-quality/ I especially like the way the Plextor drive blows the rest of the crowd away. I'd like to see tests of some of the more exotic transports published... It may very well be that a cd transport subjectively sounds better than PCM file streamed through SPDIF by a SB3 or a Transporter, but since the program responsible for the digital audio extraction which form the basis of the input to the SqueezeBoxes has (sort of) infinite time to perform error correction and retrying reads in contrast to the near real time requirements for the conventional cd transport. I'd much prefer the Squeezebox way. Even before the added useability of having your whole music collection instantly available. Then there is the whole discussion about how to keep the source medium in bit perfect condition. While I acknowledge that there may be enthusiast out there who never touches a CD without cotton gloves, I have kids in my house, who don't wear gloves indoors ;-) I for one find it substantially easier to keep my music collection bit perfect when it is on harddrives than when on CDs.
