Empirically speaking, conversion of lossless to lossless at the same bit
rate (like WAV to FLAC) by definition adds or subtracts nothing.

Converters that change sample rate or size, like sox downsampling 96/24
to 48/24 in Squeezecenter, or Phil using Foobar to downsample 96kHz to
44.1kHz can vary widely in quality. There is an extensive set of
comparisions of sample rate converters at http://src.infinitewave.ca/
.

Phil, there's a "Secret Rabbit" conversion plugin for Foobar that does
a better job of downsampling than the stock Foobar downsampler - see
http://www.mega-nerd.com/SRC/fb2k.html .

Kim
