Yes they reduce SNR - but if the N is low enough anyway it won't get in
the way of comparing the S when the S is boosted back to its
pre-attenuated level - which is what ADM does.
Yes they reduce dynamic range. But when ADM re-boosts the signal that
isn't apparent - it seems to act like a rather good/very linear
compander...

The fact remains that what I'm seeing and hearing is a nice linear
reduction in "volume" without any other deleterious (non-linear)
effects - just like you would get with a very good analogue control.

I can't see anything wrong with the methodology at the moment?

You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it
ain't what you'd call minimal...
SB3 (wired) - TACT 2.2X (Linear PSU) + Good Vibrations S/W - MF
Triplethreat(Audiocom full mods) - Linn 5103 - Aktiv 5.1 system (6x
LK140's, ESPEK/TRIKAN/KATAN/SEIZMIK 10.5), Townsend Supertweeters, Blue
Jeans Digital,Kimber Speaker & Chord Interconnect cables
