Can I just point out that I normally only ever use the analogue volume control in my pre-amp and always have the digital output set at max? And can I also add that I was NEVER going to suggest to anyone that they should use the digital level control without gain staging? I was going to suggest that the important part of this test was that taking the level up/down within the 80-100 range was essentially a musically transparent process.
