I agree.
I have a Beresford TC-7520 with upgraded op amps LM4562NA
It is better than stock SB3, but it is not a night and day difference.
To give you an idea, I once accidently left my amplifier on the input
connected to analog SB3 instead of the input connected to the TC-7520
I took me several hours before noticing it was may be not as good as it
is usually ...
The more I test the analog output of the SB3, the more I think you
really need a *very* good dac if you really want a clear step up.

When I upgraded my speakers and amplifier, that was a real step up
without any hesitation
