Approx 1.5m is the magic minimum length to minimise the effects of
signal reflections along the cable that can POTENTIALLY  make clock
recovery and/or jitter worse on a spdif coa line.
The length is related to the frequecny of the signals involved.

1m is not close enough for this.
There's a very readable article about tbis somewhere on the net - I'll
try and find it again...
