I am confused by the turn of argument in this thread. There are two issues with listening a low volumes. The first is electronic. Crossover distortion will be a greater factor when an amplifier is working at low power, rather than in the middle of it's output capability. And yet even when listening at high volumes, if the music had a big dynamic range crossover distortion could be an issue in quiet passages. The second is psycho-acoustic. The response of the human ear is not linear, so when listening at unnaturally low volume levels bass boost is required to make the music sound correct.
