Few DVD-A's because Sony is a music label, and their electronics
brand/division pushed the label side.

Stupid? Because they have been so for 60 years. Both DVD-A and SACD were
crippled with DRM explicitly to prevent "piracy". In fact, the prime
reason for many releases were the DRM, as Stereophile showed years ago
when they connected a spectral analyzer to a large number of releases,
and only a very small percentage had any signal over the Red Book limit.
