I think you need to burn it in continuously for a couple of weeks then do some serious listening.
My Transporter has "opened up", and extended out if you will. I'm not sure if its just that my Obligatto caps have burned in now as well, so I cant really say. What I do know is compared to my Rega Apollo the Transporter sounded better out of the box. I think the Rega was even more clinical than the Transporter and I noticed it right off. The Transporter is very clean and clinical for sure, but it also has a certain cleanlyness that is enjoyable in its own way. VERY low jitter may play a role here. I have magneplanar speakers and they tend to show it all, especially in the higher register. What I was looking for when I started my search to replace the Rega was more musicality. I was looking to go tubes if I had to, and I'm still not sure that the transporter would not be best served through a tube amp -see Modright Transporter- (I now use the winsome labs t-amp - it has a tube like sound that does sound very good. I am convinced that people overreact to the clinical sound of the transporter out of the box - I feel that the transporter does so much right that it needs to be matched well to the downstream components. Dont give up the ship! - I dont know if you are a DIY type - I would take a look at your speaker crossover (replace a clinical cap with a euphonic one) - the same could be done on the amp/preamp stage. I have switched caps twice on my maggies.
