My 2 cents: stick with the squeezebox for now and get a nice integrated amplifier, such as the Naim Nait 5i which has won more product of the year awards than any other amp. Plus, it's a huge value at $1450 new. TAS calls it one of the greatest audiophile bargains today.
Then, see if you can get someone to loan you a transporter or another separate DAC and compare those options to the squeezebox in your system. If it makes little or no difference, think about different speakers first. Until you have a system that can reveal the differences between different source components, I would suggest that any investment in such is a waste. -- deutscherhififan Primary: QNAP TS109II > BPT CPC > Modwright Platinum Signature 'Truth' Transporter with 6N30P DR 'Super Tubes' + EML 5U4G Mesh or Oppo BDP-83 > Maxxed Woo Audio WA2 with TungSol 5998's, Amperez Bugleboy 6DJ7's, and Mullard EZ80's > Audio Mirror 45W SET Monoblocks > Piega P4XL II + Piega PSub4.
