Do your speakers  support active or passive biamping? If not, you would
need to modify the speaker. Passive biamping could provide some
improvment but active would probably be better. Then you need a
EQ/crossover like a Behringer or dBx. Sometimes these will add their own
sound signature. It may not be trivial or cheap to optimize things.

The more db you put into the room, the greater the tendency for the
room to sing along. If you partially treat a room with
aborbers/diffusors or EQ, the untreated problem areas may snap into
sharper focus. This can lead to system upgrade bingeing.

You don't mention your cabling. Cabling can effect perceived harshness
and/or limit resolution. I thought the Duet sounded harsh in my gym
system. I tamed it by inserting a poor quality lossy outlet extender
before the wall wart. This cable would make things worse in my main
system. Go figure.
