Pete, I have taken an SB3 and replaced the crystals with a very low jitter oscillator fed by very low noise external PS and was able to hear a very significant difference in the analog out. This one I'm pretty sure you could measure with ADM.
Phil, I have not been able to hear a difference between flac or wav FILES, as long as both were being streamed using the same format. The difference I can hear is when streaming with different formats. So far I have just tested the clock jitter not the spectrum of the power supplies. I was surprised by the increase in jitter when the headphones were plugged in. One test to try is ADM on the analog outs with headphones plugged in or not. It will be interesting to see if the jitter difference I saw is measurable by ADM. The headphone listening tests are going to be a little difficult right now, I was doing so much of it in the lab that I broke my headphones. I put a pair on my Christmas list, but no luck. I'm going to have to order a pair myself! The next measurement is to hook the spectrum analyzer up to the PS pins at the DAC chip and see if I can see any difference there with stream format.
