Well it could be worse look at the cargo cult "engineering" going on in
some garage made boutique brands.

So by sticking a chinese dvd player inside their offer there still
heads and shoulder above some of the competition :) No "quantum
purifiers" .

That said, if one stay far away from obvious basement operations you
could usually avoid this. Sad move by lexicon who have done some good HT
processors I think ?

I think Brands like Bryston Meridian and Quad (older products before
being bought and branded by chinese, now they have a tube amp again
*sigh* Peter Walker may rise from his grave)
Is real engineering. Look at Brystons unconditional 20year warranty.

There are probably some more survivors from the 70's or 80's who
straggle on.
Many new brands seems built around some pseudo science like "quantum
purifiers". Real EE is out of their league, the actual design could be
copy pasted from something that worked. But all "evil" components
swapped without any design consideration, now it sounds very
different=better ;)
Hey Musical Fidelity did that in the Eighties, but they actually got
better over time, now they seems to make decent products, if you go by
published measurements .
