Sadly, this is true. There are a number of re-badged items out there costing hundreds or thousands more than their "native" counterparts and offering little more to the purchaser than a glowing review, and peer acceptance.
Sometimes we hear the name tag more than the music. I've done it too. I try to be more careful these days. I know what music sounds like, and I can hear differences in audio components....when they exist. There are a variety of ways to make enormous improvements in sound quality in one's music system.
