Your speakers are the self amplified Meridians? Do they take a direct source input? It has been my experience that the best way to incorporate a subwoofer is with active cross-overs or by getting the subwoofer into the system with a cross-over between the pre-Amp and amplifier. Subwoofers placed in a system in this way have proper level across the whole volume range and are not boomy or over powering at any point. Thiel and Vandersteen are good examples of these type of subwoofers. The issue with running off an LFE or passively is that the the LFE will not have the proper level match or match seamlessly as an active cross-over subwoofer will. Passive subs just don't help on the low volume tracks as they need to and then are still weak on the high level tracks not blending in. By using an active cross-over to source all drivers or using a cross-over between the pre-Amp and amplifier allows the sub to act as if it was actually part of the speaker system as if it was in the cabinet of the mains (when positioned correctly in the room). -- iPhone *iPhone* Media Room: Transporter, VTL TL-6.5 Signature Pre-Amp, Ayre MX-R Mono's, VeraStarr 6.4SE 6-channel Amp, Vandersteen Speakers: Quatro Mains, VCC-5 Reference Center, four VSM-1 Signatures, Video: Runco RS 900 CineWide AutoScope 2.35:1 Living Room: Duet, ADCOM GTP-870HD, Cinepro 3K6SE III Gold, Vandersteen Model 3A Signature, Two 2Wq subs, VCC-2, Two VSM-1 Kitchen: Squeezebox BOOM Bedroom: Second Boom Bathroom: Squeezebox Radio Ford Thunderbird: Duet, Mac Mini Ford Expedition: SB Touch, USB drive ------------------------------------------------------------------------ iPhone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13622 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=75808 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
