This suggestion, and all the talk of reducing jitter on the Touch by turning off processor tasks, got me thinking about what my DacMagic does with an SPDIF input, and I found this on the Cambridge Audio FAQ section (http://support.cambridgeaudio.com/faqs_view.php?FAQID=177&Question=Jitter+-+I+want+use+the+optical+or+USB+digital+input+to+convert+the+output+of+my+computer.++%0D%0A%0D%0AHow+effective+is+the+DAC+in+the+840C%2F740C%2FDacMagic+at+rejecting+incoming+digital+jitter+from+the+computer%2C+versus+some+of+the+asynchronous+USB+DACs+that+are+more+purpose-made+for+this+application%3F+I+know+computer+outputs+can+produce+an+incredible+amount+of+jitter.): ---- The ATF technology used in the 840C/740C/DacMagic intrinsically re-clocks all the data, removing jitter in the process and is ideal for this kind of use. It uses a very high stability local clock (a metal can oscillator) which is used to generate the timing of the upsampled data, this happens aysnchronously to the incoming clock (and its jitter) so that the output data is locked to this clock instead, which also drives the DACs. ---- I'm just throwing it in as an option. I've no idea whether this is considered anywhere near the same league as the Rega DAC, but's it's very versatile, good value, and to my ears it sounds fantastic. In my opinion, if you're using SPDIF rather than the built-in DAC, then once you've eliminated the potential of wifi induced jitter affecting playback of the SPDIF signal, there's no point in disabling it on the unit itself. Wifi interference with your other components is the only remaining problem, and that's just as likely to come from a nearby wifi bridge as it is from your squeezebox. -- chill ------------------------------------------------------------------------ chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84903 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
