If we are talking old SB2 and SB3 afiak 100% volume is the same as fixed volume . Easilly cked with HDCD or DTS files
But it is easily adjusted from all kinds of interfaces if you lock the volume it may actually stay at 100% :) and if you for example uses HDCD or DTS files 99% and 100% is a world apart as some signal bits get shifted to wrong place when using SB2/3 digital volume and the encoding breaks. Further if you have 24bit files you want to send to the DAC volume must be 100% all the time. if you use the volume they will not be 24bit anymoore. This fixed settings are for convenience, to make it easier to always have 100% volume . If you sync players and sync volume the "fixed" player would ignore the volume settings for the others . So in short if bit-perfect output is desired (for whatever reason) keep volume at 100% as the player have digital volume, but howe it's done is not important , other than fixed it is convenient. -- Mnyb -------------------------------------------------------------------- Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH and assorted amps SiriuS, Classe' Primare and Dynadio speakers, Contour 4 Contour Center, and Contour 1.3SE rear ch.
