I'm just trying to delineate the plain Jane vanilla consumers from the
geeks and geek-wannabes. Plain vanilla consumers, such as myself, only
want to enjoy the music reproduction in the highest possible quality,
given budgetary constraints. We don't care about the underlying
technology.

This is similar to automobiles. I'm not a car geek, I just use cars to
get me from A to B. Others are more into cars as a technology, they
like to learn technical details and what makes those cars tick. Then
they engage in shop talk ad nausem.

All fine and dandy, but let's not mix apples and oranges.

Broadly speaking, there are two types of audiophiles:

1. Those listening to music reproduction
2. Those listening to the equipment

I've seen a lot of audiophiles who primarily focus on listening to how
does the gear sound. They keep swapping and modding various audio
components and in the process keep listening very closely to the
differences that these changes may cause in the way the equipment
works.

I'm not like that at all, and I suspect many other audiophiles on this
forum are in the same boat. If we make a change, or an upgrade, we only
evaluate it based on whether that change had improved the illusion of
realistic presentation of the music.

I think it's vitally important to make this distinction, in order to
avoid unnecessary wheel spinning.
