I think there is something to burn in. I have noticed it with switching out a new cap. It's not huge. I'm not sure about wire. I would tend to think that is bunk. With caps there is a "healing" process that occurs. There are micro perfs in the foil that need to burn in or heal themselves. These holes or cracks are part of the spooling of the film. In terms of speakers, I can see how a film or cone could sound better from some stress after some playing. My maggies sounded better after some play time.
