Let me be honest with you: I've never heard the burn-in phenomenon in electronic components. I've heard some warm-up phenomena (basically, some components need a bit of warm-up if they've been switched off for a while). But I wouldn't call that burn-in. However (and this is a big, huge BUT), there is one electronic component that completely messed up with the validity of my other experiences. That component is Beresford Caiman DAC. I remember the day when I first got it, right out of the box sounded like utter shite. No punch, grainy, weak wimpy bass. I was so disappointed, especially after being all hopped up by so many rave reviews. I was advised to give it some burn-in time. So, for shits and giggles, I let it run in on a constant loop, 24 hours a day. Seven days later, I sat down for a listen and thought that someone snuck in and replaced it with a thousands of dollars better DAC. The difference in the sound quality was staggering! That's the only time ever that I've experienced, with my own ears, that an electronic component can improve the more you exploit it. Nine months later, I've upgraded my DAC with a better internal components, and was told that this board (they call it Gator board) also needs burn-in. That, however, was not the case that I was able to verify with my own ears. The board did improve the performance of the DAC (make that substantial improvement in all areas), but it sounded good right out of the box and it didn't change one single bit with the burn-in. -- magiccarpetride ------------------------------------------------------------------------ magiccarpetride's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37863 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86359 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
