There are relatively few hard facts in this game, but active crossovers are always better: 1) much cheaper to construct for a given quality 2) immune to vibration 3) no insertion loss = louder/less strain on amps/wasted electricity 4) more accurate 4) effective, accurate time alignment of drivers 5) more accurate frequency response 6) smaller and lighter 7) no loss of amplifier damping factor It's not feasible for even ultra-high end speaker manufacturers to offer active speakers unless they also make amplifiers... and few do -- Phil Leigh You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal...
